Volunteer Opportunities
Below are the opportunities to volunteer within our congregation and mission based efforts. Click on the sign up button to complete our submission form.
Worship Services Volunteer Opportunities
Music & Choir - all are welcome! Choir rehearses on Sunday mornings at 8:45am and sings for most Sunday services from Labor Day through Memorial Day. If you play an instrument or have other musical skills and passions to share, please do!
Ushers - welcome people into the sanctuary space for Sunday services, including passing out of orders of service and helping pass and gather the offerings baskets during the Offering.
Greeters - greet and welcome people as they arrive on Sunday morning, including orienting newcomers to our building and sanctuary.
English Scripture Readings - read scripture in English during the Sunday service.
Spanish Scripture Readings - read scripture in Spanish during the Sunday service.
Communion - we serve communion once a month and need folks to willing to prepare the elements, serve during the service and clean up.
Tech Team - we broadcast our service every Sunday to YouTube, Facebook, and Zoom. Tech Team roles include: Sound Operators, Camera Operators, ProPresenter Operators (slides, graphics videos), Zoom Operators.
Text Study - discuss the upcoming scripture for the Sunday services every Wednesday in the church library from 10:30-11:45 (there are usually treats!).
Congregation Support Volunteer Opportunities
Congregational Life Committee - primary responsibilities including planning and providing hospitality for church gatherings, from Sunday services to special events held by the church.
Community Faith Development Committee - plan inviting adult and inter generational activities to foster spiritual and community growth, including forums, discussions, field trips, etc.
Finance Committee – primary responsibilities include budget creation (yearly) and budget oversight (throughout the year).
Fundraising Committee - primarily responsible for planning and implementing church fundraising opportunities. Periodic meetings to plan fundraisers, usually during December and January to prepare for budget and special projects throughout the year.
Ministry/Mission Teams
Children, Youth and Family Ministries - opportunities to volunteer include Sunday school classes, nursery care for children ages 0-5, engaging young volunteers (bell ringing, acolyte, etc.), helping with baking and cooking activities, and other creative gifts you might bring to working with children.
Green Justice Team - join monthly meetings to plan events, projects and campaigns that engage congregation in the work of environmental justice.
Immigration Justice Team - join email list to be on notice as opportunities arise to provide hospitality and care to our siblings on the move, including educational webinars and events, church book studies, helping with needs of church as a sanctuary space, assisting with asylum seekers in transit through Albuquerque.
Racial Justice - in addition to ongoing book studies, we are exploring ways to deepen our racial justice commitments through trainings, task forces, and public advocacy.
Social Justice Book Groups - participate in ongoing book groups informed by our various social justice ministries (Immigration Justice, Racial Justice, Green Justice, Peace with Justice, Open and Affirming, WISE Mental Health).
WISE - intentionally welcoming those living with mental health challenges and expanding our inclusion and support of all who are affected by mental health challenges, join monthly meetings to plan events, projects and campaigns that engage congregation in this mission.
Other Volunteer Opportunities
Building and Grounds - includes working on church gardens, weeding, painting, cleaning, organizing storage areas, and other miscellaneous (but fun!) building maintenance projects as they arise.
Care Team - volunteer to visit folks, send cards, provide a meal, provide transportation, knit prayer shawls, and/or other creative offerings of care.
Communications Team – volunteer to assist an important, fun new team to update the FCUCC website including: selection of new content, updating social media, collection of member comments, etc. Training will be provided.
PB&J - make PB&J sandwiches/sack lunches every Sunday morning to deliver to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (ICC) in downtown Albuquerque. Support by joining schedule of volunteers, donating supplies for meals or contributing financially to “Feed the Hungry” during church services.
Family Promise - local non-profit that temporarily supports families and children in need of a home with wrap around services. We partner to help host meals for families once a quarter. Involvement can include: provide a meal and/or eat with families once assigned weeks, fill in on vacant weeks, sponsor family for Christmas and provide donations (monetary, groceries, etc.).
Open Table Connection/Luther House - we partner with this ecumenical, LGBTQIA+ affirming campus ministry at UNM and CNM. During Fall-Spring semesters, join a meal followed by open communion and worshipful experience on Thursdays at 5pm.
